Coalesce: Video by H&M

Here is a video put together by H&M, with a time lapse of my installation going up, and the actual night of the festival on October 4th, 2014. It's really incredible to me to finally watch how it all came together from an outsiders perspective, and the reactions of all the people who passed by that night. After nine months of preparation, meetings, and arduous making, here is how it all came together. Hope you enjoy!

Studio Process: Coalesce, Scotiabank Nuit Blanche

Coalesce is a site-specific installation that I made for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche which happened this past October 4th in Toronto. Looking at lace as a metaphor for interconnectivity, this large-scale installation transformed recycled materials sourced from H&M’s Garment Collecting initiative and turned them into a monumental cascade of lace - in the storefront window of H&M at Queen and Spadina.

Through this installation, I wanted to re-imagine the value potential of common discard materials while thinking about sustainable practices and the global exchange that is embedded within the garments we wear.

Here are the process shots in my studio from initial planning, sorting through the garments and constructing each piece of the three-story installation by hand!

Coalesce @ Scotiabank Nuit Blanche

I can't believe it's only a week away and I haven't blogged about it yet! This time next week, I will be installing a three-story installation entitled Coalesce in the store-front window of H&M @ Queen and Spadina for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche! I will share some pics of my process soon, but in the meantime, here is an invite I made for the show!
