CRAFT ONTARIO SHOP INVITES YOU TO 'SPOT THE CRAFT' IN YORKVILLE AT THE DESIGN FOR LIVING EXHIBITION
May 15 to June 5, 2014 Opening Reception: Thursday, May 15 from 5pm to 7pm 118 Cumberland Street | Toronto, ON
This May, the Craft Ontario Shop will be transformed into a designer showcase. Home interior vignettes within the Shop will feature works from members of Craft Ontario. Representing up-and-coming and established makers from across the province, Design For Living demonstrates that there is no line where craft ends and design begins.
Today’s maker has the ability to wholly embrace the future of design without compromising the traditions of crafting by hand. With unprecedented access to information on international design trends and to new technologies, it is no wonder that handcrafted works are blending seamlessly with high end, industrial and residential design. To live with craft now is to look beyond the functional or decorative object and consider one’s entire space.
Featured Craft Ontario members are Lizz Aston, Bettie Cott, The Brothers Dressler, Dayna Gedney, Paul Gray Diamond, Reed Hansuld, Grant Heaps, John Koletic, Cristyan Leathley, Merganzer Furniture, Normal Goods, Aaron Oussoren, Filipa Pimentel, and Steve Wallin.
Craft Ontario Shop is also proud to be featuring the beautiful hand-tufted rugs of design team Watson Soule, made locally in Toronto, as well as a special wall installation from the renowned Jeff Goodman Studio.
ABOUT CRAFT ONTARIO AND THE CRAFT ONTARIO SHOP: Formerly the Ontario Crafts Council, Craft Ontario is a not-for-profit service organization that works to have craft recognized as a valuable part of life. We promote and celebrate professional craft through providing member opportunities, and advocate for craft practice by educating and empowering diverse audiences.
Since 1932, proceeds from Craft Ontario Shop (formerly The Guild Shop) have supported individual craftspeople as well as the programs and activities of Craft Ontario. When you treat yourself to the luxury of a handmade object, you support a local craftsperson, connect to the maker’s vision and bring beauty into your life. Now more than ever, thoughtfully designed and skillfully crafted objects are appreciated for their enduring quality – as pieces to be handed down and for everyday enjoyment.
SHOP HOURS: Monday to Wednesday & Saturday, 10:00am - 6:00pm Thursday & Friday, 10:00am - 7:00pm Sunday, 12:00pm - 5:00pm
